Residential Gardens Aged Care

Client: Total Construction

Duration: 12 months

Price Range: $0.4 to $0.6m

Project Status: Completed

Electrical Consultant: JHA Consulting

A well established aged care facility, Residential Gardens located in the western Sydney suburb of Rooty Hill has undertaken an expansion of their premise.

The project consisted of a new wing housing 21 suites and a transition room, all on Level 1.  A spacious multifunction area designed for entertainment and activities is located on Level 2.  This level also houses a nurse’s station, general office and rooms for doctors and physios.  Throughout the facility there are many relaxing lounge areas and peaceful outside garden spaces.

The new building is joined to the existing facility via two link bridges.

The project comprised of power and data install including a kiosk substation upgrade and a new main switchboard/metering.  As this was Design and Construct we took great care to ensure the right package was provided to the client, ever mindful of their budget and expectations of the completed project.

The lighting was a major component of the new build as lux levels are crucial due when housing the elderly. The installation also involved external garden and egress lighting as well as a purpose lit indoor garden area.

Our communications division, Shamrock Communications, completed a fully operational data network, extended from the facility’s existing system.  A fibre and copper backbone was also installed.

An MATV system was connected to all resident suites and lounge areas, extended from the existing building.

A big thanks to all our suppliers – Blacktown City Switchboards for our MSBs and DBs, Clare Communications for the hearing loop and entertainment sound system, and Industralight and Jadecross for the light fittings.  The help and assistance provided by John R Turk at Artarmon is also very much appreciated.

This project had several challenges due to the design of the building with many large open spaces and numerous split level areas with a number of restrictions for cable access. The complexity of the lighting circuits was increased due to the multiple control locations required by the facility.

Residential Gardens was a rewarding project to have been a part of and a very satisfied client and builder.
